WGP: Leyva to lead Peru in second weekend

Angela Leyva of Peru (12) is currently the top scorer in World Grand Prix Group 3

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 9, 2016 - Peru's Angela Leyva sits at the top of the best scorer chart after the first weekend of action in FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Group 3 with a total of 70 points, seven above Croatia's Samanta Fabris and 24 above Madelaynne Montaño of Colombia.

Leyva was the top scorer for her team against Kazakhstan with 31 points. Also the top scorer in last year's World Grand Prix Group 3, Leyva scored another 23 against Mexico on Saturday before top scoring again with 16 points against Algeria.

Leyva's scoring prowess has helped Peru start FIVB World Grand Prix Group 3 with maximum points. This coming weekend Peru take on Algeria first, then Cuba and Croatia.

The Group 3 Preliminary Round is played in four-team pools over two weekends, followed by a Final Four tournament including the top three of the combined standings plus the Group 3 Final Four hosts Kazakhstan.
