Team coaches looking forward to showdown in Peru

The coaches from Peru, Croatia, Cuba and Algeria meet up before the action starts

Chiclayo, Peru, June 9, 2016 –  Peru will host Algeria, Cuba and Croatia in the second round of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Group 3 matches with the action taking place in the Coliseo Cerrado de Chicalayo.

It will be the first time in 34 years that the city in the north of the country has hosted international volleyball and it will be three days of fierce competition as the teams chase a place in the Group 3 Finals on June 18 and 19 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Belacel Mohamed, coach of Algeria: “We know the competition is going to be very hard, Peru are a feisty team, Cuba and Croatia have a really strong team but this is a young team and experience is important because it will allow us to grow for the future.”

Miroslav Aksentijevic, coach of Croatia: “Our performance in Australia was better than we expected. Getting three wins was crucial but we know the competition here is going to be neck and neck. We are focused on Cuba, they will be our first rivals, they have been improving match after match and we will fight to keep our high.”

Roberto Garcia, coach of Cuba: “We are here to get the three victories. The first game against Croatia will be tough but they are a team we have been studying and confident we can give a good fight. Peru are also a good team that has just come from a great performance at the World Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Japan but we have to fight to get to the Final Four.”

Mauro Marasciulo, coach of Peru: “This competition will help us a lot in our work to take Peru to our highest level. We performed well in Algeria last weekend, but the results against teams like Cuba and Croatia will test what we can do in the Final Four and prove we have what it takes to return to Group 2.”
