Slöetjes tops scoring in World Grand Prix Group 1

 

Lonneke Slöetjes spikes against Turkey

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 15, 2016 - Dutch opposite spiker Lonneke Slöetjes scored 68 points in FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Pool C1 action to take top spot in the Group 1 scorer chart last week. Slöetjes scored 27 points in her team's 3-1 defeat to Russia in their first match on Friday. She helped her team to the first of two wins last weekend however by scoring 15 points in their 3-0 victory against Turkey on Saturday and was again the Netherlands' best scorer with 26 points against Belgium on Sunday.

Slöetjes leads the Group 1 scorer chart eight points ahead of Turkey's Polen Uslupehlivan and 13 ahead of Nataliya Goncharova of Russia. Click here for the Group 1 best scorer statistics.



Slöetjes made her debut with the Dutch national team in June 2008 in a match against Cuba at the Montreux Volley Masters. In the 2015-2016 season she played for Turkish club Vakifbank with Dutch teammates Robin de Kruijf and Anne Buijs and coached by Netherlands manager Giovanni Guidetti. Together they won the Turkish league title.

The Netherlands go into the second week in Group 1 ranked fifth. They will play Russia, Italy and Thailand in Pool F1 in Bari, Italy.
