Bulgaria earn second victory, this time in straight sets

Bulgaria's captain and key player Eva Yaneva against the Kenyan block

Tucuman, Argentina, June, 4, 2016 - Bulgaria achieve a convincing victory over Kenya, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-9) with an astonishing performance by captain Eva Yaneva, one of the top scorers with 11 points. Kenya were still unable to break the streak against European teams, whom they have never been able to win.

After Bulgaria worked hard to beat the Dominican Republic in their opening match in five sets, the European team managed to achieve their goal against Kenya in just one hour and eight minutes in their second Group 2 match. Bulgaria have now won their last two World Grand Prix matches and could have a run of three for the first time since winning all eight matches at the 2014 World Grand Prix.

Emiliya Nikolova was the main force in the Bulgarian side, holding the side together and recovering control of the game in the second technical timeout thanks. Kenya’s Captain Mercy Moim tried to stop the Europeans, but unforced errors within the team made it easier for Bulgaria to get the game 25-17.

Nasya Dimitrova and Eva Yaneva joined Nikolova in the following chapter. The outside hitter's lethal attack quickly gave Bulgaria the difference which Dimitrova widened from the middle. Violet Makuto was the only solution on the African side, along with Moim who scored eight points each for the Kenyans, but Nikolova eliminated every hope after sentencing the set 25-17. Brackcides Khadambi, who had scored 17 points for the Kenyans against Argentina the previous day, was only able to contribute 6 points against Bulgaria.
