Brazil win 3-1 despite fast Belgium start

Ankara, Turkey, June 25, 2016 - Brazil beat Belgium 3-1 (13-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-18) in Ankara on Saturday, winning their fifth successive World Grand Prix match against Belgium.

Jaqueline Pereira De Carvalho Endres scored a game-high 17 points for Brazil, who overcame a fast-start from their opponents.

Having won the first set against Brazil at the World Grand Prix in last week's meeting, Belgium again came out flying. This time though, they worked their way out to a 9-0 lead, with Lise Van Hecke prominent. Thaisa Menezes finally won a point for Brazil, but Van Hecke was relishing the ascendancy and Belgium took the set 25-13.

Brazil started the second set in much brighter fashion and led 8-6 at the first technical timeout. Jaqueline spiked to give Brazil a 10-6 buffer and even with Van Hecke's best efforts again in the second set, this time Brazil were too good and took it 25-19 to level the match at 1-1.

Thaisa had a good third set for Brazil and despite Belgium trying to fight, Brazil took the set 25-16 and the advantage in the match, 2-1.

Belgium found themselves in front again at the beginning of the fourth set and led 8-6 at the first technical timeout. Jacqueline accumulated points nicely to score 17 for the match, one more than Van Hecke who had 16 for Belgium, and it was Brazil who won the fourth set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
