Thailand and Germany clash for first victory

 

Ningbo, China, June 11, 2016 - Two teams that are still winless after two legs at the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2016 Group 1 tournament in China, Thailand and Germany, clash on the third day in a quest for first victory.

Head-to-Head
• Thailand have won two of their nine World Grand Prix matches against Germany, including their last meeting.
• Thailand can now beat Germany twice in a row for the first time in the tournament.
• Germany won their first five meetings with Thailand at the World Grand Prix, but now have a W2-L2 record in their last four meetings.
• Never has a World Grand Prix match between these teams ended in a five-setter.

Thailand
• Thailand failed to win any of their two opening matches of the 2016 World Grand Prix.
• Thailand have not lost their first three matches of a World Grand Prix campaign since 2010. 
• Thailand are on their longest losing streak (5) in the competition since seven in a row between 2006-2008.
• Pleumjit Thinkaow scored most points against United States (13) of which seven spikes, four stuff blocks and two aces.
• Wilavan Apinyapong also reached double figures in scoring against the Americans (11).

Germany
• Germany are still winless at the 2016 World Grand Prix after suffering defeats to United States (3-0) and China (3-0).
• Last season, Germany started their campaign with two defeats before a win in the third match against Dominican Republic.
• Germany have not suffered three successive 3-0 defeats in the competition since 2001. Then, they lost consecutively against United States, China and Russia without winning a single set.
• Louisa Lippmann (11) and Lisa Izquierdo (10) scored most points for Germany against China.
