Goncharova: We had no right to lose

Russia trounced Turkey in the five sets match

Kaliningrad, Russia, June 12, 2016 – Understandably, members of both teams were in radically different moods after Russia's dramatic 3-2 win over Turkey (26-24, 20-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-10) on Sunday.

Yury Marichev, Russia, coach: "While we were looking for an appropriate composition of the team Turkey ran ahead and they were difficult to stop. There were a lot of complicated situations. Now we see what we should work on."

Natalia Goncharova, Russia, player: "We showed a nice performance tonight. You know, Russia is celebrating The Day of Russia today, so we just had no right to lose. Many thanks to the local supporters, who made an amazing atmosphere here in Yantarny. Let me dedicate this victory to them."

Ferhat Akbas, Turkey, coach: "I’m proud of my team. Today we played really well. Our technique worked, but Russia is a very strong team. We would be proud to win against them in Kaliningrad."

Hande Baladin, Turkey, player: "We just tried to play good, because we are young and we are new generation. We defended well, we could have won, but Russia is stronger and more experienced. Anyway, our congratulations to them."
