Overview

Team profile

Thailand made their FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix debut in 2002 and have participated in all but the 2007 edition since, which is when they hosted the World University Games. They missed out on a qualification for this summer’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games when they finished fifth at the Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan from May 14 to 22.

Their best World Grand Prix performance came in 2012 when they finished fourth. Last year they finished 9th in Group 1. They finished 11th in 2014 and 13th in 2013 when they also celebrated a victorious Asian Championships campaign for the second time after their 2009 success. They also triumphed at the 2012 Asian Cup and have 11 victories at the South East Asian Games, where they have taken gold in each of the last seven tournaments.

At the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship they finished joint 17th in their third appearance, first participating in 1998. In addition, they have competed at the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup twice and the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup once. Thailand are still chasing a first ever Olympic Games participation however.
