We made too many mistakes in today's match: Marichev

Kyoto, Japan, June 24, 2016 – Serbia defeated Russia 3-2 (23-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-20, 15-12) in the FIVB World Grand Prix at Shimazu Arena on Friday.

Maja Ognjenovic, Serbia, captain: "I want to congratulate Russia on their good play. Today, I was surprised and happy and proud because Russia were leading 2-0. It's tough to play Russia and they used some important players. We played good in defence and blocked well in the fifth set. It's the fourth game where we've played five sets so we're a bit tired. I hope we can win against Japan and Thailand."

Zoran Terzic, Serbia, coach: "I want to congratulate both teams because it was an interesting game tonight and interesting for the spectators, but I cannot say it was a quality game. But for Serbia it was a good game because we used some players who didn’t play so much in the previous phases and they showed they can play without any problems and that is definitely good for us. We are satisfied and happy to win against Russia, but we can definitely play better than today."

Ekaterina Kosianenko, Russia, captain: "Today our performance was not good. We made a lot of mistakes and so we couldn’t win."

Yury Marichev, Russia, coach: "I want to congratulate Serbia. Our matches against Serbia are always difficult because they have height and good blocks. But today, we lost because we made so many errors in the match."
