Bangkok, Thailand, July 6, 2016 - The United States celebrated their first victory in the 2016 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-23) win over the Netherlands at Indoor Stadium Huamark on Wednesday.

USA coach Karch Kiraly: “It’s always a great day when we get to play with a great team and wonderful coaching staff. We have a great deal of respect towards Giovanni (Guidetti) and his staff. We look forward to our match against China on Friday. We will try to improve.”

USA captain Christa Hamotto Dietzen: “This was the second time we met against the strong Netherlands team in this year’s World Grand Prix. We will also play them in a few weeks in Rio. So, it’s also good to play against a strong team. We learned a lot from the match and we look forward to a tough match against China on Friday.”

Netherlands coach Giovanni Guidetti: “Congratulations to USA, they have shown that they are a step ahead and we still have not achieved to reach their level. It’s very hard to compete at this level against a strong team. It’s very good that we are here so we can see what we can improve on.”

Netherlands player Lonneke Sloetjes: “USA played very well and we had trouble with our reception. We made several mistakes towards the end of each set, but we know what to improve on and we know how to learn.”
