Berenika Tomsia in action at the net against Canada

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 9, 2016 - If Poland are second in FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Pool B2 going into the second weekend of play on Friday, they have Berenika Tomsia to thank for the 67 points she scored last weekend. Tomsia is currently the top scorer in Group 2, eight points above Emiliya Nikolova of Bulgaria and Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez of the Dominican Republic.

Tomsia claimed 23 points against Canada, 15 points against the Czech Republic (three less than her teammate Anna Grejman) and 29 points in her team's five set defeat to pool leaders Puerto Rico. This weekend, Poland first take on Argentina on Friday, then Kenya on Saturday and Puerto Rico on Sunday. The three matches will take place in Wloclawek, Poland.

Tomsia started playing as a middle blocker but shifted to the opposite position. In 2003, Tomsia was the youngest player to debut with Poland's senior team at the age of 15. Tomsia plays for Italian top division club Metalleghe Sanitars Montichiari since the 2014-15 season.
