Lizbeth Sainz spikes at the net in Mexico's 3-0 win over Algeria

Algiers, Algeria, June 3 2016 - Lizbeth Sainz inspired Mexico’s victory to move them top of Preliminary Group Three of the World Grand Prix with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-15) win over host nation Algeria.

Algeria raced out of the blocks to take an early 8-3 lead in the opening set as Yasmine Abderrahim was proving strong at the net in front of her home crowd. Mexico were not overawed by the deficit and clawed their way back to level at 14-14. The remainder of the set was a tight affair but the visitors got the crucial break to take it 25-23.

Mexico were buoyed by their opening set triumph and began the second set on top. The home nation were just about keeping in the set, cheered on by the home crowd, but they were always playing catch-up. Mexico and Sainz were not about to allow the host back into the set and closed out to take a 2-0 lead.

Facing an early loss, Algeria needed to make their mark early in the third set but once again, Mexico, led by the impressive scoring of Sainz, were proving to be stronger on the day and moved into an 11-7 lead. With the match firmly in the visitors sights, they piled on the points to seal a 25-15 set win for a 3-0 straight sets victory.
