Defending champs USA set to open 2016 World Grand Prix

 

USA will be chasing a seventh World Grand Prix title in 2016

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 3, 2015 – Defending FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix champions USA will open the 2016 edition against Germany in China. 

The Group 1 Preliminary Round will be played out for three weeks from June 10 to 26, with the 12 teams split into three pools of four.

Karch Kiraly’s team won the Italy 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship and will be seeking a seventh World Grand Prix title after winning the 2015 edition in Omaha. 

After they face Germany, USA take on Thailand and then hosts and 2015 FIVB World Cup winners China in Ningbo from June 10-12. 

On the same weekend double Olympic champions and 2015 bronze medallists Brazil will host a group that also features Serbia, Italy and Japan, while European champions and 2015 World Grand Prix silver medallists Russia welcome Turkey, the Netherlands and Belgium to Kaliningrad.

After two more weekends of action on June 17-19 and June 24-26 the Group 1 Finals will take place from July 6 to 10 in Bangkok, where hosts Thailand will join the top five teams from the Preliminary Round.
