Algeria looking to gain more experience in World Grand Prix

Algeria won two matches in last year's tournament

Lausanne, Switzerland, 28 May, 2016, – Algeria’s women’s team will take part in the 24th edition of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix from June 3 when they will face Mexico in their opening Pool 3 match.

After that, the Algerian ladies will face Kazakhstan on June 4 and Peru on June 5 before facing a long trip to Peru for games against their hosts (June 10), Croatia (June 11) and Cuba (June 12).

In their debut season three years ago, Algeria lost all nine of their matches 3-0. Two years ago, they surprised Bulgaria by forcing a fifth set and only lost that 19-17. Last year, they won for the first time – not once, but twice, overcoming Australia 3-0 and 3-2.

They were disappointed by their three straight losses in the recent Olympic Qualification Tournament in Puerto Rico but are now looking forward to more international competition and the chance to improve and gain experience.

First-round schedule:
At Belakhder Tahar Community Hall, Algiers
June 3, 4:00 p.m. – Algeria-Mexico
June 4, 4:00 p.m. – Algeria-Kazakhstan
June 5, 4:00 p.m. – Algeria-Peru
