Winless Algeria with tough challenge ahead

 

Algiers, Algeria, June 5, 2016 - Algeria face a very tough task to claim their first victory at their home-court tournament of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2016. On the last day they have to measure up to unbeaten Peru.

Head-to-Head
• This will be the first encounter between Algeria and Peru at the World Grand Prix.
• They previously met at the 2015 World Cup when Peru won 3-0.
• Peru also beat Algeria in straight sets at the 2010 World Championship.
• Peru have met a CAVB side twice at the World Grand Prix, both times Kenya. They won the first encounter in straight sets but lost the second by 3-1.

Algeria
• Algeria seek their first win at the World Grand Prix after four successive defeats. They beat Australia twice at the 2015 World Grand Prix.
• Since three successive wins at the African Olympic Qualifying tournament in February 2016, Algeria have lost  their next seven matches in major competitions.
• Yasmine Abderrahim (23) and Kahina Arbouche (18) are the leading scorers for Kazakhstan at the 2016 World Grand Prix.

Peru
• Peru have won 8 of the 10 World Grand Prix matches since the start of last year's tournament.
• Six of these eight wins have come with a 3-0 scoreline.
• Angela Leyva has scored 54 points in her two matches at the 2016 World Grand Prix.
• Leyva has been top scorer for Peru in each of their last nine competitive matches - two at the 2016 World Grand Prix and all seven at the  2016 World Olympic Qualifying tournament.
