Peru clear pre-favourite in match against Algeria

 

Chiclayo, Peru, June 9, 2016 - FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2016 Group 3 current leaders Peru are facing bottom-placed Algeria at home with the status of clear pre-favourite to win the match.

Head-to-Head
• Peru and Algeria have had one previous meeting at the World Grand Prix as they met last week on 5 June.
• Peru won that encounter in straight sets (25-12, 25-13, 25-12).
• The last two matches between these teams at other major tournaments also finished in straight set victories for Peru: at the 2010 World Championship and the 2015 World Cup. 

Peru
• Peru are leading Group 3 after winning all of their three matches in Pool A3. Only Croatia (Pool B3) also won all of their three Group 3 matches.
• Peru are on a joint team record three match winning streak. They never won four in a row at the World Grand Prix.
• The last time they had a three match winning streak, Peru's streak was ended by a CAVB side as Kenya beat them 3-1.
• Only once did Peru win more than three matches at a single World Grand Prix edition: in 2015 (6).
• Angela Leyva (70) has scored most point of all players in Group 3. She scored 58 spikes (group 3 tournament high), 10 blocks (shared group 3 tournament high) and two aces.

Algeria
• Algeria are looking for their first win at this year's World Grand Prix.
• Their last victory at the competition came on 3 July 2015 against Australia (3-2). They have been winless in five World Grand Prix matches since. 
• They are the only team in Group 3 which failed to win a single set in their first three matches.
• Yasmine Abderrahim, the youngest player in the squad (17 years), is Algeria's top scorer with 35 points.
