Mexico and Australia fight to break losing streaks

 

Cali, Colombia, June 12, 2016 - Both Mexico and Australia are on heavy losing streaks in the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix, but one of them is bound to put an end to theirs as they meet in Colombia on Sunday.

Head-to-Head
• Mexico and Australia have met once at the World Grand Prix as they played last year against each other. Mexico won 3-1.
• Australia have lost all of their three World Grand Prix matches against NORCECA sides, including a 3-1 defeat against Cuba in this year's edition. 

Mexico
• Mexico have lost their last four matches at the World Grand Prix, including defeats against Colombia (3-0) and Kazakhstan (3-1) in Cali. 
• They could lost five in a row for the first time in World Grand Prix history. 
• Their only win in this year's edition came in their opening match versus Algeria (3-0). 
• Lizbeth Sainz is Mexico's top scorer at the 2016 World Grand Prix with 57 points. 
• Freda Maria Lopez Olmos has made most digs of all players in Group 3: 61 (3.59 average per set). 

Australia
• Australia have lost all of their five matches at this year's World Grand Prix. 
• Together with Algeria, they are the only team in Group 3 without a single point. 
• In total, Australia have now played 19 World Grand Prix matches without winning a single match.  
• Australia have won only one set in 2016, against Cuba on 4 June (3-1 defeat). 
• They could lose four consecutive matches in straight sets for the second time, after they lost their first ever four matches at the World Grand Prix in 2014 by 3-0. 
• Eliza (Karley) Hynes has scored a team-high 63 points, fifth-most amongst all players in Group 3.
