Marasciulo - Leyva won the battle against Vargas

Cuba's Heidy Casanova Alvarez spikes but it was Angela Levy and Melissa Vargas who lit up the show

Chiclayo, Peru, June 11, 2016 – Once again, Peru's Angela Leyva and Cuba's Melissa Vargas didn't disappoint with more than 7,000 fanatics taking over the Colisseum Cerrado de Chiclayo, to have the opportunity to enjoy the battle between two young stars.

Peru coach Mauro Marasciulo: “It wasn’t easy, Melissa Vargas is the girl that I was looking to counter during the third set and she was attacking very well, but we have Angela Leyva that had a hard moment during the match but she recovered when she was needed and then she won the battle against Vargas. Tomorrow's match will be different, more tactical, we have to see the statistics of the other team and prepare a plan to do it better against them."

Cuba coach Roberto Garcia: “It was a great match, both teams had the possibility to win, the defense wasn’t good enough and we didn’t know how to close the fourth set, Peru lowered their performance in the third set, we had the advantage for a while and didn’t know how to keep it, now I only have to congratulate the Peruvian team and the amazing crowd for the great support to their team that make them react and win the match.”

Peru captain Mirtha Uribe: "I want to thank all the people in Chiclayo that came, we’re happy cause we’ve just classified to the Final Four and now we have to think about tomorrow, we want a victory to give joy to this people and our entire country, the match was difficult, we knew Cuba would be a difficult rival, they play really good and everything went complicated in the second and third set; although the people didn’t stop cheering us in every point, we should highlight that the team is united and that help us to make a great job."

Cuba captain Sulian Matienzo: “I think Peru had more physical preparation, we failed in the definition. Each tournament is different and gives us a good experience. We hope to finally get a victory tomorrow against Algeria.”
