Leyva devastates Mexico scoring 23 points

Peru's top scorer with 23 points Angela Leyva shows her excellent defensive skills against Algeria captain Dulce Carranza

Algiers, Algeria, June 4, 2016 - Angela Leyva continued where she left off against Kazakhstan on Friday, with another unstoppable performance, collecting 23 points as Peru beat Mexico 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-13) victory on the second day.

Leyva, who was the top scorer, in last year's World Grand Prix Group 3, led Peru's attack with 31 points in their 3-1 win over Kazakhstan on Friday and again, the 19-year-old wing spiker was dominant in attack.

Mexico
lost to Peru this time last year in their only previous World Grand Prix encounter in straight sets on home soil with Leyva one of four Peruvian top scorers with eight points.

This time Mexico surprised Peru at the very beginning of the match leading 3-0 and causing the Peru coach to call the timeout. His team quickly refocused and gained three-point advantage which they managed to expand to 25-16 at the end of set one.

Set two followed the same pattern as Leyva was not only flying over the net, but also helped her team with great digs. Peru took the set 25-16.

In set three Peru still had the match under they control. Mexico did not find the way to fight back and were not able to stop the offence of Leyva who helped to win the set 25-13 and finished the match with 23 points scored.
