Kazakhstan and Mexico duel for top-two finish in Algiers

 

Algiers, Algeria, June 5, 2016 - Kazakhstan and Mexico, each with 1-1 win-loss ratio at the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2016 tournament in Algiers, meet on the last competition day in a battle for a top-two finish.

Head-to-Head
• Kazakhstan and Mexico have met once at the World Grand Prix. In 2014, Kazakhstan won the match in straight sets.
• These teams also met at the 2014 World Championship. In the first round of the tournament Kazakhstan proved too strong (3-0).
• Kazakhstan lost their last two matches against NORCECA sides. They lost 3-1 against Dominican Republic at the 2016 World Olympic Qualification Tournament and in straight sets against Cuba at the 2015 World Grand Prix.

Kazakhstan
• Kazakhstan ended a run of four defeats at the World Grand Prix by defeating Algeria 3-0.
• They can now win two matches in a row in major competitions for the first time since four wins at the 2015 Asian Championships and 2015 World Grand Prix.
• Kazakhstan scored 35 points from spikes against Algeria, with six players contributing four or more to these 35 spikes.

Mexico
• Mexico suffered their first defeat at the World Grand Prix in their 3-0 loss against Peru, after a run of three wins.
• Mexico now have recorded L-W-L-W-L in their last five matches at major competitions.
• Alejandra Patricia Segura Maldonado is Mexico's top scorer at the 2016 World Grand Prix after scoring nine points in each of the two matches.
