Garcia - We showed a lot of character tonight

Australia's Karley Hynes top scored for the match with 20 points

Bendigo, Victoria, June 4, 2016 - Cuban coach Roberto Garcia was impressed with his team’s character to save two set points to seal the match, while Australian coach Shannon Winzer said she was proud of the way her team competed.

Cuba coach Roberto Garcia: “This was a good match for both our teams. The Australians had great defence today. Our first set was very good. Our team showed good character to win the fourth set. All the players played well in the final set.”

Australia coach Shannon Winzer: “I’m proud of the girls today. We competed and never backed off, we stayed aggressive. Reeve had a fantastic game. Bec is a fantastic passer, she got a ton of kills tonight. She was unbelievable.”

Cuba captain Sulian Linares: “We had to do our best today after we lost yesterday. I saw Australia last year, and they have improved a lot. Australia put pressure on us. Our youngest players are doing a good job, it is good for the future.

Australia captain Shae Sloane: “Last night we were really disappointed, so we fired up for tonight. It was an awesome match to be a part of, the feeling on the court was amazing. That’s the depth of our team, we can show that people who haven’t been given much opportunity in the past can come on like Bec (Reeve) did and play so well.

Australia player Rebecca Reeve: “It was an awesome feeling on the court. You just have to take the opportunity and run with it.”
