First ever face-to-face encounter of Algeria and Croatia

 

Chiclayo, Peru, June 11, 2016 - Although Algeria and Croatia have never met before, their polarized performances in the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2016 so far point to the European side as the likely winner of their face-to-face encounter in Peru.

Head-to-Head
• Algeria and Croatia have never met before at any major competition.
• Algeria have played seven matches against CEV sides at the World Grand Prix and lost all. Only against Bulgaria in 2014 they won sets as they lost 3-2.
• Croatia won their only encounter with a CAVB side at the World Grand Prix as they defeated Kenya in 2014 in straight sets.

Algeria
• Algeria failed to beat Peru on Friday (3-0) and are now on a six-match winless streak in the competition.
• Algeria are hoping to win their first World Grand Prix match since beating Australia 3-2 on 3 July 2015.
• They are the only team in Group 3 which failed to win a single set in their first four matches.
• Yasmine Abderrahim, the youngest player in the squad (17 years), is Algeria's top scorer with 40 points.

Croatia
• Croatia recorded a fourth successive win in the competition with a 3-0 win against Cuba on Friday.
• Croatia and Peru are the only teams in Group 3 without defeat at the 2016 World Grand Prix.
• Croatia can win five consecutive World Grand Prix matches for the first time.
• Samanta Fabris scored 19 points against Cuba, more than twice the amount of points of any of her teammates.
• Only Peru's Angela Leyva (90) has scored more points in Group 3 of the competition than Fabris (82).
• Croatia have three of the best four spikers of Group 3: Fabris (1st, 58.62% success), Mira Topic (2nd, 58.49%) and Mia Jerkov (4th, 47.44%). Peru's Leyva is in third place with 54.20%.
• Six players have served up six or more aces in Group 3 of which four players are in Croatia's team: Ana Grbac (9 aces), Fabris (7), Topic (6) and Jerkov (6).
