Croatia serve up 3-0 defeat of Cuba

Samanta Fabris scored a game-high 19 points for Croatia

Chiclayo, Peru, June 10, 2016 - Croatia beat Cuba 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-13) in Peru on Friday on the back of some superior service and a game-high 19 points from Samanta Fabris.

It was a special moment for the sport in Chiclayo, Peru, on Friday, with the Croatia-Cuba match the first international fixture played in the city for 34 years.

Croatia started brightly and with opposite Fabris firing early on, Cuba were up against it from the outset. Errors from Cuba didn't help, as Croatia wrapped the opener up after 20 minutes.

For the second set, Cuba were matching Croatia on the scoreboard with a impressive defence from middle blocker Daymara Lescay. Heidy Rodriguez was playing well in attack to support Lescay, but Cuba were again left to rue errors in defence and Croatia took the set 25-15.

Cuba tried to lift again in the third set and they managed to be level at 9-9. But seven straight points with the service of Ana Grbac pushed Croatia to a 16-9 buffer from which a ruthless Fabris helped them take the third set and the match 3-0.
