Colombia and Mexico clash to end losing streaks

 

Cali, Colombia, June 9, 2016 - Colombia entertain Mexico in Cali as both sides will be looking to put a stop to their two-game losing streaks in FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2016.

Head-to-Head
• Colombia have won the only World Grand Prix encounter with Mexico on 26 June 2015 in straight sets. 
• Colombia have played two other matches against NORCECA sides at the World Grand Prix, both against Cuba. They won 3-1 in 2015 but were defeated by the Cubans in this year's edition (3-1).
• Mexico have lost all three of their matches against CSV sides at the World Grand Prix: besides Colombia they were beaten by Peru twice, both in straight sets (2015 and 2016). 

Colombia
• Colombia have lost their last two matches at the World Grand Prix against Croatia (3-0) and Cuba (3-1). It is already their longest losing streak at World Grand Prix. 
• In Colombia's only previous participation in 2015, they lost only two matches while they won six. 
• Madelaynne Montaño has scored a team-high 46 points this tournament: the most capped player of the squad scored 40 spikes, three blocks and three aces. 

Mexico
• Mexico won their opener at the World Grand Prix against Algeria (3-0) but failed to win their following two matches against Peru (3-0) and Kazakhstan (3-1). 
• Mexico won two matches at their previous two participations at the World Grand Prix (2014 and 2015). 
• Mexico could lose three consecutive World Grand Prix matches for the third time. Last year, they started with four losses before winning their last two matches.
• Lizbeth Sainz is Mexico's top scorer this tournament with 33 points. 
• Freda Maria Lopez Olmos has made a total of 43 digs, a tournament high in Group 3 (no other player more than 23).
