Algeria and Kazakhstan looking for first victory

 

Algiers, Algeria, June 4, 2016 - Algeria and Kazakhstan will both be looking to claim their first victory in the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2016, as they meet on the second day of the tournament in Algiers.

Head-to-Head
• Algeria and Kazakhstan have met twice at the World Grand Prix. Kazakhstan won both matches in straight sets. 
• Besides their meeting at the World Grand Prix these teams also met at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Kazakhstan won by 3-1. Algeria won the third set of the match.
• Algeria won two of their six World Grand Prix encounters against AVC sides, both against Australia in 2015. 

Algeria
• Algeria lost their 2016 World Grand Prix opener 3-0 against Mexico.
• Algeria kicked-off with two straight defeats on each of their previous three World Grand Prix appearances.
• Algeria have now lost a total of 20 World Grand Prix matches, including 16 by a 3-0 scoreline.
• Yasmine Abderrahim scored a match-high 15 points in Algeria's 3-0 defeat against Mexico, including 13 spikes.

Kazakhstan
• Kazakhstan have now suffered four defeats in a row at the World Grand Prix after their 3-1 loss against Peru.
• That streak started immediately after a run of three wins, which began with a 3-0 win against Algeria (26 June 2015).
• They hope to claim their first win in a major competition this year, after having lost all seven matches at the World Olympic Qualifying tournament in May.
• Irina Shenberger scored 15 points against Peru, while Kristina Anikonova had five blocks.
