Team profile

In Kazakhstan’s sixth FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix appearance last year they finished sixth in Group 3. In 2014, they ended two places higher after losing to Croatia in the match for third place. They finished 17th in 2013 - their best result was 10th on their debut in 2007. They have not qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after finishing eighth at the Women’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan.

At the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship, Kazakhstan finished fourth in their first round pool above Thailand and Mexico and recorded their best finish of joint fifteenth. They finished sixth at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Korea.

After the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991, the new national side made their debut at the Asian Championships in 1993 finishing fifth. Twelve years later they won their first medal at the competition - a silver - and in 2012 they added an Asian Cup bronze to their medal collection. They completed their journey to the top of international volleyball when they qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where they finished joint ninth.
