Young players pass the first test for both Poland and Canada

Zielona Góra, Poland, June 3, 2016 - Poland emerged as the victorious side in their match against Canada, which opened the World Grand Prix Group 2B tournament in Zielona Góra for these young teams, both still in the process of building-up.

Jacek Nawrocki, Poland coach: There’s a lot we need to improve. We are still working on many aspects of our game. This is not yet time when we could expect to walk out there and beat anyone. For now, we need to work on our game step by step, we need to eliminate our own errors. Tonight we saw a lot of these things, but also a lot of things that I’m very pleased with. The same can be said about my players.

Arnd Ludwig, Canada coach: I think we had a very good start in the Grand Prix. Especially at the beginnings of sets we did really good job in passing and attacking. At the end of the sets we struggled a bit especially with reception e.g. in the first set we were very close and then we made a few errors in a row. Generally, I’m positively surprised how we played and confidence we played with, because for many players that is the first tournament at this level. We did a very good job today.

Agata Durajczyk, Poland: This wasn’t an easy match, but we expected a difficult game. Today some our players had both series of service aces and moments when serving was the faulty element of the game. Our statisticians have good analyses of both Czech Republic and Puerto Rico’s play so we are hoping for a better performance tomorrow.

Lucy Charuk, Canada captain: I’m pretty happy with our performance today. We had a lot ups and downs but I think our ups were really good. For all these girls that had never played internationally before, I think they did really well today. I’m super impressed with our young players, that’s what we can build on, obviously we have to work on few things, make less errors in service, but generally for the first game together I’m pretty satisfied with our play today.
