Poland seek to get it right on second attempt in two years

 

Varna, Bulgaria, June 19, 2016 - Poland take on the Dominican Republic in the Group 2 final of the FIVB World Grand Prix, in heir second attempt in two years to gain promotion, after losing to The Netherlands in last year's final.

Head-to-Head

- Dominican Republic and Poland will face each other for the 12th time at the World Grand Prix.

- Dominican Republic have won six of their previous 11 encounters versus five wins for Poland.

- Their most recent meeting came in the 2012 edition, with Poland winning in straight sets.
- Poland could win consecutive World Grand Prix matches against Dominican Republic for the second time, after 2009-2010.


Dominican Republic

- Dominican Republic are on a six-match winning streak at the World Grand Prix, their longest ever run in the competition.

- In the 2016 edition, they only lost their opening match against Bulgaria (3-1).

- They reached the Group 2 Final by defeating Puerto Rico (3-1).

- Bethania De La Cruz Peña and Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez have scored joint most points in Group 2 in 2016, as they both are on 114 points coming into the final. Berenika Tomsia (POL) is also on 114.


Poland

- Poland reached the Group 2 finals by beating Bulgaria in the semifinals (3-1).

- Last year, Poland lost the final of Group 2 in straight sets against Netherlands.

- They have won five of their seven World Grand Prix matches in 2016 and could win six matches in a single edition for the first time since a record eight victories in 2010.

- Poland could lose only two matches in a single World Grand Prix edition for the first time. Their fewest number of defeats in one edition came last year: three.

- Berenika Tomsia is joint top scorer in Group 2 of the World Grand Prix, together with forthcoming opponents De La Cruz Peña and Martinez (all 114).
