Czechia and Canada looking for first win in Zielona Gora

 

Zielona Gora, Poland, June 5, 2016 - Czechia and Canada will meet on the third day of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2016 tournament in Poland, each hoping for a first win and for the third place in the standings.

Head-to-Head
• Canada and Czech Republic have met twice at major tournaments, at the 1974 and 1986 World Championships (as Czechoslovakia).
• Canada beat Czechoslovakia 3-1 in 1974 while losing in straight sets in 1986.
• Czech Republic have won three and lost three matches against NORCECA teams at the World Grand Prix. 
• For Canada, Czech Republic will be their 14th different opponent in World Grand Prix history and the sixth European team they will face.

Czech Republic
• Czech Republic hope to win their first match at the 2016 World Grand Prix.
• They could suffer three defeats in a row for the first time since three losses at the 2013 World Grand Prix.
• Four of Czech Republic's last five World Grand Prix have resulted in a 3-1 scoreline: three defeats, and one win. The other score was a 3-0 loss against Netherlands in 2015.
• Michaela Mlejnkova leads Czech Republic in scoring at the 2016 World Grand Prix with 26 points.

Canada
• Canada hope to win their first World Grand Prix matches after four successive defeats.
• They have yet to win their first competitive match in 2016, after four defeats at the 2016 NORCECA Olympic Qualifying tournament in January.
• Alicia Perrin had four blocks in the 3-0 defeat against Puerto Rico.
