The media were out in force in Tucuman

Tucuman, Argentina, May 10, 2016 – Argentina will host the first round of Group 2 in the FIVB World Grand Prix from June 3 to 5 and they got the ball rolling on Tuesday with an impressive media event.

Argentina will stage three days of matches at Club Deportivo Floresta in the city of San Miguel de Tucuman when “Las Panteras” will take on Kenya, the Dominican Republic and Bulgaria.

A presentation took place at the Salon Blanco at Tucuman’s Government House attended by the President of the Argentine Volleyball Federation, Juan Antonio Gutierrez; Sports Secretary, Jose Banegas; coach Guillermo Orduna; player representative Emilse “Mimi” Sosa; and a number of local officials and representatives.

“This event is a privilege for the Tucuman people as it opens our doors for the whole country and also, to the World,” said Julio Saguir, delegate of the Ente Provincial del Bicentenario. “It will be a huge bridge for those that do not know our province, giving them the chance to get to know it and also watch top-level volleyball.”

Sosa said she was looking forward to playing on home soil.

“It will be great to play once more at home,” she said. “We will need the energy and cheering of our people to give our best.”

It will be the third consecutive year Argentina have hosted games in the World Grand Prix after its experiences in Lomas de Zamora in 2014 and Formosa last year.

After the official presentation and interviews were finished Juan Antonio Gutierrez, Guillermo Orduna and “Mimi” Sosa moved to the Floresta Stadium to get to know its facilities.

Gutierrez is heading up the organization of the event, which is seen as important for the province and the country. In talks with the media, he emphasised the goal of the Argentine Volleyball Federation to spread the reach of the sport around the country.
