Canada

Canada’s run in 2015 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Group 2 ended with the North American side claiming 18th place overall, one place higher than in 2014 when they returned to the competition for the first time since 2003. On that occasion they were equal 11th. At the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship, the Canadians finished equal 17th. Despite winning their opening fixture against Cameroon, defeats in their remaining four matches saw them finish fifth in their pool.

Canada have competed eight times at the World Championships and their best results were 11th-place finishes in 1974 and 1982. They have won two silver medals and eight bronzes at the NORCECA Championships and also took bronze at the 1995 Pan American Games. At the 2013 NORCECA Championships, they took fourth place. A loss in straight sets to USA in their semifinal pitted them against Puerto Rico in the third-place match, where they suffered the same result.

Arnd Ludwig

Arnd Ludwig

German Arnd ‘Lupo’ Ludwig, who took over in 2009, has spent the last few years getting Canada’s women’s team back on to the international tournament scene. In 2014 he coached them to a seventh-place finish in Group 2 of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix, their first appearance in the tournament since 2003. Ludwig helped Canada qualify for the 2010 and 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championships, ending a drought that started in 2003. Before heading to North America, Ludwig was an assistant coach with Germany’s women’s team from 1999 to 2002. He also coached German women’s club teams SSV Ulm from 1998 to 2002 and Dresdner SC from 2002 to 2009. Ludwig played in the German Bundesliga for 10 years.
