Overview

Team profile

After finishing ninth in 2013 and winning FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Group 3 in 2014, Bulgaria were promoted to Group 2 in 2015, when they claimed fifth place but did not progress to the Final Round.

In 2014 Bulgaria participated in their first World Championship since 2002 and achieved a final standing of equal eleventh. Despite losing their first two pool matches, three straight wins got the team through to the second round before elimination.

In 2013, Bulgaria claimed their third bronze medal in the European League and a fifth consecutive appearance on the podium. They won silver in 2010 and 2012.

Bulgaria competed in the inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2015 finishing ninth. The same year the team finished thirteenth in the European Championship.

The team's greatest successes came more than three decades ago when Bulgaria won bronze at the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games and gold at the 1981 European Championship.
