Turks and Dutch in first ever Grand Prix encounter

 

Kaliningrad, Russia, June 11, 2016 - Turkey and the Netherlands face each other on the second day in Kaliningrad for the first time in FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix history.

Head-to-Head
• Turkey and Netherlands have never before met at the World Grand Prix.
• Turkey and Netherlands last met at a major competition at the 2015 European Championships. Netherlands beat Turkey 3-0 in the semifinal.
• Turkey won their last match against against a European opponent - beating Germany 3-2 on 17 July 2015 - ending a five-match losing streak against CEV teams at the World Grand Prix.

Turkey
• Turkey have won three straight World Grand Prix matches for the first time since 2014, when they beat Japan, United States and Russia consecutively.
• Turkey have had one longer winning streak at the World Grand Prix, taking five in a row in June 2012.
• Turkey have won back-to-back World Grand Prix matches in straight sets for the second time, after beating Algeria and Thailand without dropping a set in August 2013. They have never done this in three straight.
• Turkey can win the first two matches of their campaign for the fourth time in the last five years. In this span, they only failed to do so in 2015.

Netherlands
• Netherlands saw their eight-match winning streak come to an end on Friday, when Russia proved to strong (3-1 defeat).
• Netherlands conceded three sets against Russia, as many as in their last eight World Grand Prix matches combined.
• Netherlands have avoided back-to-back World Grand Prix defeats ever since August 2013, when they lost four in a row.
• Netherlands have won at least one set in each of their last 21 World Grand Prix matches since a 3-0 defeat against Brazil in August 2013. This equals the team record streak, set between 2007 and 2009. Claiming at least one set in this match would give Netherlands an outright record.
