Brazil breeze through to semifinals of World Grand Prix

 

Sheilla led Brazil to a straight-set victory over Russia in the 2016 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals

Bangkok, Thailand, July 7, 2016 – Brazil cruised to the semifinals with a straight-set (25-22, 25-10, 25-21) win over Russia in the 2016 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals at Indoor Huamark Indoor Stadium on Thursday.


Sheilla Castro had an excellent stint from the attack line, where she scored all her 14 markers for the Brazilian victory. Nataliya Goncharova of Russia top scored for Russia with 12 points 

Brazil and Russia went head-to-head in the opening set, as they traded points at the beginning, but Brazil’s Thaisa Menezes and Natalia Pereira led the team’s net defence to secure their first set victory 25-22.

Brazil continued their brilliant run in the second set, while the Russians struggled with their errors. Brazil dominated with a 25-10 win to gain a 2-0 set-advantage.

Russia played better in the third frame but still trailed the South Americans 18-14, but managed to bridge the gap at 22-19. Brazil maintained a three-point lead 24-21, before Sheilla sealed match victory with a strong spike 25-21.
