Duo Sainz and Dulce give Mexico their first win of the weekend

Mexico ended its losing streak after a battled game against Australia.

Cali, Colombia, June, 12, 2016 - Mexico ended their losing streak with a tough 3-1 win against Australia (18-25, 26-24, 29-27, 25-23) in Cali on Sunday. Lizbeth Sainz and Dulce Carranza scored 14 points each to overpower the Australian team.

Both teams were looking to end their poor recent streaks, with Mexico eventually able to win their first match in the last five FIVB World Grand Prix clashes. For Australia today's result means that they remain winless in this year's edition of the World Grand Prix with six losses to their name.

Eliza Hynes opened the match with a point and remained Australia's go-to woman for the rest of the night. Captain Dulce Carranza did all she could in attack, but that was not enough for the fantastic Australian block and Mexico dropped the first set, 25-18.

The Latin Americans started better in the second part, but neither of the teams managed to gain control of the set. Rebecca Reeve joined Hynes and Carey to put Australia in front, but after a closely contested finish, it was Mexico's star Bibiana Candelas who won the set for her team, 26-24.

Both teams exchanged fire in the following set. Australia held a lead until the second technical time-out, thanks in a large part to their efficient block. It was then that the phenomenal Sainz stepped up and made the score even once again. After another thrilling finish Mexico prevailed, 29-27.

The fourth set was as exciting as the previous two, with captain Shae Sloane hitting hard for Australia and Dulce Carranza answering for the Mexicans. A good blocking streak by Flores put the Mexicans in front. They were able to hold on to their tender lead and it was eventually Sainz who finished the set with a good spike, 25-23.
