Argentina produce great opening performance against Kenya
Tucuman, Argentina, June, 3, 2016 - Kenya's Brackcides Khadambi easily top scored with 17 points but it proved not enough as Argentina's team game was too good as they wrapped up a
3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-13) victory in their opening Group 2 match.
Argentina, who has yet to lose a set to Kenya in major competition, were too clinical with captain Emilce Solsa at the helm. The defeat saw Kenya, who won Group 3 last year and were making their debut in Group 2, break their best ever winning streak in the World Grand Prix of five matches.
Kenya was the first owner of the game with Violet Makuto spiking hard, but Argentina reacted just in time with setter Yael Castiglione surprising its rival defense to turn the score around, 16-14. From then on, the home team grew on its game with Leticia Boscacci as equal top scorer and monopolised on Kenya's mistakes to enter to the final track with a good difference. Even Kenya complicated its rival at the end with Brackcides Khadambi, a spike of Fresco finishing the set 25-22.
Argentina continued on a good level, but opposite Khadambi and captain Moim conduced her team to lead the board. On the other hand, Emilce Sosa took a big part on Argentina's recovery and lead the home team to a partial win, 16-13. Orduna's squad played faster and surprised Kenya, unable to stop the performance of its rival, losing 22-19.
