Puerto Rico back training after Olympic qualification

 

Puerto Rico have had to cut their Olympic qualification celebrations short with the World Grand Prix coming up

San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 26, 2016 – Puerto Rico’s players have quickly returned to training after they booked their place at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Olympic Qualifier last week. 

The Caribbean queens qualified for a debut Olympic Games after they won the Olympic Qualifier in front of their home fans tournament at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, but they are now back preparing for the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix. 

“We will work on physical, technical and game system parts,” coach Juan Carlos Nunez said.

Puerto Rico will begin their World Grand Prix campaign in the Polish city of Zielona Gora when they take on the Czech Republic on June 3. They then face Canada and Poland. 

They then cross into Poland for the second week of action and face Kenya on June 10, Argentina on June 11 and Poland on June 12. The Group 2 Finals then take place in Varna, Bulgaria on June 18 and 19. 

After the World Grand Prix, Puerto Rican will play in the Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo from June 30 to July 11. 

At Rio 2016 Puerto Rico will play in Group B and take on FIVB world champions the USA, China, Italy, the Netherlands and Serbia.
