Kossanyiova shines in the second victory over Canada

The Czech Republic improved their record to two wins and two defeats in Group 2

Olomouc, Czech Republic, June 10, 2016 - The Czech Republic beat Canada for the second weekend in a row with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-16) win at home to complete the first day of FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Pool C2 play on Friday. Andrea Kossanyiova was the star amongst the home players, scoring 16 points.

The hosts had already beaten Canada in straight sets last week in Poland and once again recorded a confident victory, pleasing the local crowd. However, they still have a lot to do to reach the Final Four following two defeats to Poland and Puerto Rico last week.

The Czech Republic started the match playing aggressively at the net, taking the early lead at 6-1. Great performance of Pavla Vincourova in many elements helped other hitters in her team to score easily and keep the advantage at 15-10. Without any forced mistakes, Czech Republic claimed the first set 25-19.

Czechs held the control in the second set, reaching technical time out with 8-4. Canadians were not able to pressure the opponent with their serve, giving the hosting team easy way to score in side outs. But Canada didn't give up and with a couple of good action chased the score, staying only two points behind at 19-17. Similarly to the previous set, Czech Republic remained focused and ended things at 25-21.

The beginning of the third set began to Veronika Trnkova, who ruled at the net giving her team 8-4 advantage over Canada. Kossanyiova joined her teammate, keeping the four-points lead at 10-6. Canada couldn't respond with their blocking to the fast setting of Czech Republic, as the hosting team maintained the lead to 18-14 and 25-21, finishing the match in straight sets.
