Barakova guided Bulgaria to its third victory to top Group 2

 

Unbeaten Bulgaria earns its third triumph and leads Group 2

Tucuman, Argentina, June 5, 2016 - Bulgaria ended the first weekend unbeaten after its victory over Argentina, 3-1 (27-25, 25-17, 25-27, 25-19) and takes first position in Group 2. Setter Petya Barakova was the leader of another good performance of Ivan Dimitrov's team.

This was the first encounter between Argentina and Bulgaria at a major tournament and Bulgaria dominated the game from the beginning with its outside hitter Eva Yaneva and Miroslava Paskova on great form. Argentina battled with Leticia Boscacci and levelled in 23 thanks to great defence and Josefina Fernandez counterattack. However captain Yaneva took everything under control with her unstoppable attack and a final ace, 27-25.



Bulgarian service complicated Argentina's game and Emiliya Nikolova helped to make the first difference in the second set. Setter Barakova not only played good attack distribution, but also damaged with her serve. In this context, Yaneva was fundamental to route of the game and ended local hopes with an amazing ball to the line, 25-17.



The third chapter started evenly, but even when Ivan Dimitrov's team lead at first, Argentina grew from Sosa's contributions and managed the rest of the set. Nevertheless, Nikolova and Yaneva's spikes drew Bulgaria level at 24 and there was the best version of Tanya Acosta, leading Argentina to the victory, 27-25.

Nikolova was the key of every difficult moment of Bulgaria while Acosta meant the same for Argentina. The Europeans were patient and benefited from good setter decisions to build a five points difference in the last track. Top scorer Nikolova first and Dimitrova then closed the game, 25-19.
